SKI 2010
ATTENTION... WE ARE DOING TWO SKI TRIPS THIS YEAR...
Parents,
It's time to start discussing our biggest trip of the year. Unfortunately, the trips are getting too large to safely and efficiently handle us. Therefore it's time to rethink how we do things. We realize this will split some families. Obviously we will make every attempt to work with you. If you have questions, please see me as soon as possible.
As with any new venture, please be patient. Some things will go great and some will not and for some of you nothing will change at all. What matters is that God is glorified, we have a blast, and no one gets hurt.
Can't wait,
Billy

*Health/Release form and Insurance Information...
Ski trips are a high risk activity. It is vital that safety be a primary concern. As a result, we take our health/insurance info very seriously. Please, make sure your notarized GREEN health form and a copy of your insurance card is turned in no later than September 26th with your $100 deposit. Every one (every single person) who goes on the trip needs to turn this in. However, adults do NOT need their form notarized.
Notaries can be found in many locations. Your local bank is the easiest place. Please turn in EVERYTHING at one time. There are church members with notary stamps. A notary will be present on Wednesday Evening the 22nd after ONE WAY Worship.
Unfortunately, Health forms are not available on-line. It must be the original. They are available at every Sunday AM or Wednesday PM service starting August 15th. It is the students/parents responsibility to pick them up. Please do not ask staff to make special arrangements after office hours to pick them up.
Money and forms can be turned in to Billy during any church service. You can also leave them with the church secretary during office hours or put them in the trey on Billy's office door.
Please be respectful of turn in times and locations. Never assume that turning in forms (especially when late) after office hours, on Billy's car, home, or wife's work is ok. And please, do not put them in the church mailbox. Thank you.
*What to bring...
To ski:
-A Watch
-Jacket and warm pants. Something synthetic that is water proof (AVOID COTTON).
-Gloves. Something water resistant (AVOID COTTON).
-Ear protection/Eye protection. Sunglasses /goggles that fasten or tied. (AVOID COTTON).
-Wool or synthetic socks (AVOID COTTON).
-Water bottle (AVOID COTTON).
On a typical day, a skier will want to wear several thin layers. Depending on the weather, you may or may not wear the underlayer. Be prepared for both; mild and extremely cold weather. DO NOT attempt to ski in cotton sweat pants or blue jeans. Also, regardless of past ski trips, guys will NOT ski without shirts (ladies too).
For lodging:
-BIBLE: THIS SHOUD BE THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU PACK (It is very common on ski trips for Bibles to be damaged or lost. Don't bring one that has sentimental value.)
-Warm (conservative) clothing for 4 days (don't forget extra socks and underwear)
(don't over pack, this trip is not a fashion show)
-toiletries including soap (everyone, yes everyone, needs deodorant)
-Towels and washcloths
-Sheets/blankets/Sleeping bag for single bed (Remember: It will be COLD)
-Pillow
-Alarm Clock (please bring one that doesn't wake up the entire room)
-Extra pair of shoes
-$$$ for at least 4 meals and supplies, souvenirs or spending.
-BREAKFAST FOODS/SNACK FOOD (breakfast will not be provided)
Do not bring anything that you cannot live without. It is common for things to get wet, lost and messed up. The cabins we are staying in are very safe and secure; however, they will NOT be locked.
*Cell Phones/I pods/etc
Students are welcome to bring cell phones. However, they will find that reception on the mountains is very poor. Please remember that cell phones need to be used to call home only. Also, please bring I-pods or video games with caution. They are great for a long bus ride however, they cause lots of problems. Also, staying up at night and chatting with friends or playing video games will NOT be allowed.
For those parents who will want their students to call home you may want to consider a calling card. Please note: Staff and trip leaders will not be responsible for making sure your student calls home. Please encourage your child to take care of this themselves. Thank you.
*Medicine
If a student needs medication to go to school, they also need it to go on youth events. If a student needs help remembering to take medication; please work out those details well before the day we leave.
